Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, the individual featured in a recently resurfaced viral video claiming intentions to establish an “Igbo Kingdom” in Ghana, has officially retracted his statements and offered a heartfelt apology to the Ghanaian people.
In a meeting yesterday with the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Mr. Ihenetu clarified that the interview in circulation dates back to 2013 and does not reflect his current views or intentions. He expressed deep regret over the remarks and emphasized that he has long abandoned the idea of creating any form of Igbo kingdom in Ghana. He also stated that he has not acquired any land for such a purpose.
“I sincerely apologize to the President, Government, Traditional Leaders, and People of Ghana for any unease or agitation caused by my past comments,” Mr. Ihenetu said during the meeting.
Hon. Ablakwa, who facilitated the dialogue, reiterated Ghana’s proud tradition of peace, hospitality, and Pan-African solidarity. He underscored the country’s commitment to welcoming all Africans and people of African descent while emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and adherence to Ghana’s laws and cultural values.
“Ghana is exceptionally proud of its celebrated friendly foreign policy which welcomes all to our beautiful and peaceful country. We are determined to keep championing that Pan-African identity — for which we have attained global renown,” Hon. Ablakwa remarked.
He, however, cautioned that Ghana expects all guests to respect the country’s peaceful and law-abiding traditions and avoid any conduct or pronouncements deemed unlawful or divisive.
The Government has called for calm and restraint, reminding the public of the strong, inseparable bond of friendship and brotherhood between Ghana and Nigeria.
“In the true spirit of African solidarity, let us guard our commentary to ensure this matter does not degenerate into xenophobic consequences,” Hon. Ablakwa urged.
Long live the vibrant and enduring Ghana–Nigeria relations.
