The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has taken delivery of advanced Military Personnel Protective Equipment valued at over $1 million, donated by the Government of the United States.

The items, which include specially designed female body armor, were officially presented at the Command Mess, Burma Camp in Accra. They are intended to enhance the protection of Ghanaian personnel, particularly women, serving in United Nations peacekeeping operations across the globe.

The donation forms part of the Women’s Body Armor Quadrilateral Pilot Project, a landmark initiative launched in 2023 through the collaboration of Ghana, Zambia, the Netherlands, and the United States. The project was established to improve the safety, confidence, and operational effectiveness of female military officers deployed in international peace support missions.
Officials highlighted that the equipment is not only a contribution to Ghana’s defense capacity but also a reflection of the global commitment to advancing gender equality within peacekeeping forces. By tailoring protective gear to suit female body types, the initiative addresses long-standing challenges that female personnel have faced in the field, ranging from discomfort to inadequate protection.

The United States reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana’s military in peacekeeping and security operations, while the Ghana Armed Forces expressed appreciation for the timely support, emphasizing that the equipment will significantly boost the performance and safety of its peacekeepers.
This latest support further strengthens Ghana’s reputation as a leading contributor to peacekeeping missions, while advancing the broader agenda of inclusive security and women’s empowerment in international conflict resolution.
